A simple tip to consider for refinancing your mortgage.

We’ve all heard a friend or neighbor speak about refinancing their home at some enviable interest rate. Does that mean you should rush out and jump through the hoops of a refinance? Not necessarily…

First, refinancing a mortgage doesn’t have to be difficult but don’t kid yourself either. You’ve got to do your homework and ask a lot of questions. Here’s one simple tip to pay attention to in your consideration of refinancing your home. This by no means is the only consideration but it may save you some time.

A borrower should definitely shop around. You can contact banks directly or inquire with a couple of mortgage brokers. A realtor is a great resource for referrals because they’ve seen them in action and have a good feel for how hard the mortgage brokers work for their clients. Just because you bank at ABC Bank doesn’t mean they will have the right mortgage for you. What you need to pay attention to is comparing the APR (Annual Percentage Rate) of each loan instead of the quoted interest rate. This is representative of what the true cost of the loan will be and you really need to save at least a half point to make it worthwhile. As I said, this is not the only determining factor but it’s a quick way to determine if you should proceed investigating the potential of refinancing.

Recycle large containers creating Watering cans

I think it’s safe to say we all do laundry and many of us have those big plastic laundry soap containers. Besides taking up to much space in the trash or recycle bin try out this cool trick. Instead of throwing them away, rinse them out thoroughly. Yes this will take a few minutes. It’s amazing how concentrated the detergent is. I think about that as I am adding detergent to the wash. My suspicion is you could get 84 loads instead of the 64 they claim. Less is more… sorry I degressed. Anyway, once it’s cleaned out drill a hole aprox 1/8″ in the top of the cap. Then you’ll need a relief hole for the water pressure. So make an additional hole just above the handle. This will allow water to flow freely. If I were Martha Stewart I would suggest getting some lovely wallpaper to adhere to the sides of the container in an effort to beautify your new watering can. Since I am not Martha, I will not suggest that one!

Green Solution: Make your own soaker hose.

Put that old trashed hose to good use.

There’s always a time where a sprinkler isn’t going to water efficiently an area. Let’s face it, we all have a hose lying around that we’re tripping over. Here’s a great way to save money and put it to good use. Find a nice hard surface area, grab your hammer, consult with your dog as to where a nice stick may be. No wait, that’s what I would do. My dog is responsible for all the stick monitoring. If you don’t have a dog I am sure you know where there’s a stick. Anyway, find a stick that you can lodge into the end of the water hose. Make sure it’s a tight fit. Then all you have to do is perforate the hose with a sharp nail. This way you put an old hose to good use and conserve water all at the same time. Now if I could keep my dog away from obsessing about that stick.

Easy tip to avoid trimming by plant beds

If you ever tire of pulling out the weed wacker to hit the spots near raised flower beds or walls. Try this nifty trick. Trench out a small area that follows the shape of the bed or wall just large enough to install bricks that protrude just above the ground level. This way when you mow the mower wheels travel along here cut the grass and you keep the growth away from the flower beds. By doing this you save time and create a more polished look!
